For the Ultimate in Event Entertainment: Bring on the Burlesque

I don’t know what exactly is going on.  Maybe it’s dance-centric movies like “Black Swan” and “Burlesque,” or the TV show “Glee,” but I’m seeing a burlesque trend pop up in special events and I like it!

I’m not talking stripping here.  Burlesque doesn’t necessarily involve nudity like that.  It is about the provocative tease not raunch.  Well, sometimes it’s about the raunch, but it doesn’t have to be.

How can you do burlesque at your next soiree and do it classy?

Consider hiring a sultry jazz band like Bernadette Seacrest and her Provocateurs.  The tattooed siren and lead singer, Bernadette, has a silky smooth voice and a biting wit.  Part blues, part jazz, part swing noire, you and your guests will love this group.

Go with a band headed by a crooner and accompanied by soul like Kingsized.  The self-proclaimed “family of artists” perform from “Montreal to Miami, from Broadway to Berlin,” but they will also give your guests a brilliant show that could include Van Morrison, Sinatra, Elvis, Swing and so much more.  They will work with you and your dance troupe to create the atmosphere and entertainment you’re after.

Now for the dancing…nobody does it better than the Dames Aflame, a premier performance troupe based in Atlanta and gaining popularity since 1995.  With lavish, hand-made costuming by designer Stephanie Ludwig (think sequins and fringe), the Dames Aflame have done book signing parties to the wrap party for Sugarland’s world tour and they will be glad to perform at your corporate event, wedding reception, birthday party, private function, grand-opening, or fundraiser.  And man are these showgirls something to SEE!

Dance troupes working with a band or a DJ or as a stand-alone entertainment add a fun, saucy element to any event.  Magicians, illusionists, palm readers and the like would also fit into the theme.

Have you been to an event with a burlesque element?  Got any other ideas for how to pull this off?  Side note: Keep it classy!
