Here, in antebellum Roswell, a real southern belle grew up, married in her family’s white columned home and became the mother of a U. S. President. Here, Union troops set up hospitals in the Presbyterian Church and The Bricks. Here, the mills were burned for manufacturing the fabric for Confederate uniforms and 400 women and children mill workers were charged with treason and shipped north to uncertain fates.
For those who revel in history, Roswell’s Historic District offers 640 acres of vintage homes, historic sites, museums, monuments, churches and cemeteries, with 122 acres listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
