Favorite Weddings of 2011: Lisa’s Pick at Barnsley Gardens

TGIF everyone! You all got to see Jen’s favorite wedding of the past year yesterday and now it’s Lisa’s turn… take it away Lisa!

The photography caught my eye, but it was the proposal story that won my heart (a tad bit jealous too!)  A well thought out and planned proposal is the beginning of your life together.  The proposal is before any announcements, engagement parties, bridal showers, dress shopping and planning of the wedding day and all that comes in between. The proposal should always be the start of the “story of your wedding.”

I first fell in love with Barnsley Gardens while watching a wedding that took place there on the Style Network’s “Whose Wedding is it Anyways?”  The setting is to die for and today’s bride Jennifer says “It cast a seemingly theatrical mood to the entire event,” which is exactly why she and her fiance chose the magical location for their wedding.  Jennifer, a Chiropractor and Bryan a Restaurant Manager, were introduce by a mutual friend and after hours of talking food, wine and the spine they begin their dating journey and were soon engaged to be married!  Thank you Scobey Photography for sharing these images with us!

“We were married on May 1st, 2010 at Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, GA. We decided to keep the wedding intimate with our closest friends and family. We had just under 100 guests and it was perfect! We were able to spend time with each of our guests and really enjoyed ourselves.  The Ruins at Barnsley Gardens was an incredibly unique and mesmerizing setting for our wedding. Built in the 1800’s, the red brick ruins of the Barnsley Mansion presented an elegant and beautiful setting which cast a seemingly theatrical mood to the entire event.  With the ceremony taking place outdoors, we replaced the traditional lighting of the unity candle with a sand vessel unity, which symbolized the joining of our families.  An unexpected and magical moment came when a light rain began to gently fall during the ceremony.  Lasting no more than a minute, and quickly followed by sun, we viewed this magical occurrence as a blessing of good luck on our special day.”

scobey-photographyscobey-photographyJennifer actually found her dress at the Brides Against Breast Cancer gown sale that takes place each year here in Atlanta.  After getting such a great deal on her dress and being able to donate to such a great cause, she was able to splurge on a vintage inspired crystal and beaded headpiece she found at Kelly’s Closet in Chandler Park.

Here’s more from the brdie on her big day…

Now for the proposal . . . details!
“It was a complete surprise! Upon returning home from spending Christmas with my family. Bryan picked me up at the airport. Instead of driving back to our apartment in Woodstock, we arrived at The Mansion on Peachtree.  I was greeted with cocktails, and told we were having dinner Craft. We enjoyed an amazing dinner, enhanced with rare and wonderful bottles of wine Bryan had brought to the restaurant earlier that day. After dinner, we returned to the hotel to find our room turned down with roses, chocolates, and a bottle of our favorite champagne on ice. After recapping our relationship and professing his love, Bryan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was a dream-come-true! The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in bed, followed by a couples massage at Spa 29. Soon after, we made our way home to announce the news to family and friends.  It was all very exciting and surreal…unforgettable!”

Was there a theme or inspiration behind the décor?
“Our inspiration came from an ornament given to us by Bryan’s Aunt as a Christmas gift. The ornament is a set of iridescent, glass lovebirds connected by a strand of beads. We carried the theme of lovebirds throughout the wedding in our invitations, place cards and centerpieces.”

What was the best wedding advice you received?
“The best advice was from a friend who told us to take time throughout the day to stop, look around and take it all in. By doing this, it seemed like the pace of the day was just right and we were able to enjoy the whole experience. I didn’t feel like the day flew by in the blink of an eye.”
