Atlanta Wedding at Glendalough Manor by Ester JuLee Photography

When the bride’s favorite color is blue and so is the groom’s, blue seems like the obvious wedding color and all around theme right?  Correct.  That’s exactly where Carol and Bonar started the planning process for their October 2010 nuptials.  With Cornflower Blue to be exact.  The two were wed at Glendalough Manor, a captivating find located just a short hop, skip and a jump south of Atlanta in Tyrone, Ga.  Their traditional wedding included a harpist for their outdoor ceremony (Glendalough Manor has a huge lawn for just that sort of thing), buffet style reception, dancing, cake cutting… all the trimmings!  Esther JuLee Photography was on location and snapped every single important moment as it happened.  Enjoy the photos below!

Carol and Bonar were introduced by mutual friends and were together for six years before getting engaged.

Now for the proposal… details!
So, I knew I was getting proposed sometime soon. But didn’t know how or exactly when.  One day I came home after hanging out with my friends and he said get dressed lets go on a date. He said that his friend knew this really nice place for a date.   So we arrive at Whiskey Blue of the W Hotel. We go up to the roof top, drink a few drinks and chat away. We were ready to leave, and then he says to me, my friend is here somewhere, let me just say hi to him. So we ride the elevator up, he opens up a door and SURPRISE! The whole room is filled with rose petals. I see a huge vase of roses on one table with a cone full of chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite), and a bottle of wine. Then I thought to myself, he’s going to propose. But it wasn’t that easy. He tells me to search the room. I search and search and then inside the closet I find a stuffed animal with a ring box in it paws. And he says open it. So I open it, and there was a piece of chocolate. I bit into the chocolate thinking the ring was inside it. But there wasn’t. Then when I turned around to say something to him, he was on one knee asking me to marry him with the real ring in his hand. And of course I said YES!!!   The chocolate thing was funny. He likes to play jokes on me all the time.

We want to know about all the wedding details. Was it small and intimate or big and traditonal?
It was a medium sized of 150 guests. Family, relatives, and close friends.  Our florist did an awesome job. My bouquet was bigger than expected so that was a sweet surprise.  Our programs were simple white square 3 page booklet held by a blue ribbon at the top corner.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Glendalough Manor. Our ceremony was held outside in the garden with a pond and water fountain in the background. Our reception was held inside GM’s mansion-like building in one of their ballrooms. We did our bride and groom photos abd also the bridal party photos before the wedding began. We had 3 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen and 2 flowergirls. We had a traditional wedding. My uncle was the officiant. We had a harpist play our ceremony music and we had a unity candle ceremony. We also had one of our friends sing a song during the ceremony. Blue is our favorite color so we used blue as our main color. Instead of the flowergirls throwing flower petals, they each got to hold a pomander ball. After the ceremony, while we had family pictures, the guests went up to the mansion for cocktail hour. We had an open bar of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. We served hors d’oeuvres: chicken quesadillas, stuffed mushroom, and crabcake.

Can you give us an overview of the event?
In the reception hall, we had high-boy tables that held our photo guest book where guests could look at our pictures and leave a message. We also had a satin wrapped gift envelope box. We had guest table attendants who passed out goody bags for the children. Inside the reception room we had high-boy tables set up in the front with floating candles in cylinder vases. All the guest tables either had a tall pilsner vase with flowers or a hurricane vase with floating candles and submerged flowers in them. Each table had favors (small champagne flute candles) and a menu card.
We started off with our first dance then went straight to dinner. Dinner was buffet style. After dinner, we went around each table to thank the guests. Then we did toasts, cake-cutting, and father-daughter/mother-son dance. We did some open dancing and we ended the night with a flower petal departure.

Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
My wedding gown is from David’s Bridal. I wanted something simple and an a-line style. It had beading in the chest area then a sheer layer of fabric split down the gown. The back was beading as well and the train wasn’t too long or too short. The gown had 2 straps that could be detached so I decided to wear the gown as a strapless gown.

My bridesmaids work long, strap-less, cornflower blue dresses with silver heels.  The groomsmen had on black tux, corn flower blue vest and tie.

What was the most memorable moment?
When we saw our parents extreme content and happiness with how our wedding turned out because they had asked us many times if we needed any help during our whole wedding planning, but we had said it was ok. They worried so much, but when they saw how beautiful our wedding turned out, they were so happy and pleased.

What were the honeymoon plans?
We went to St. Lucia at the Grande at Sandals Resort. We got a beach front rondoval with our own pool and hot tub. We also had a butler to assist us daily. A dream vacation!!!!
